Hands-on science for TK–2 with Ylva the Butterfly Whisperer.
Watch your students light up as they care for live caterpillars, learn about the butterfly life cycle, and release real butterflies into the wild.
Educator-Led Visit
Begin your classroom’s butterfly journey with a magical visit from Ylva the Butterfly Whisperer’s team.
We arrive with live caterpillars, engaging visuals, and all materials needed to launch a hands-on science experience your students will remember forever.
During the kick-off class, our educator leads an interactive 40 minute lesson introducing the butterfly life cycle, habitats, and care — sparking curiosity and wonder. Then, over the following 4–5 weeks, teachers guide their students through caring for the caterpillars, journaling observations, and watching each transformation unfold.
Every class receives individual biodegradable caterpillar cups, student journals, habitat supplies, and Butterfly Guardian certificates — plus access to Ylva’s video lessons and the Blackborg Teacher Hub. Inside the Hub, teachers find the complete NGSS-aligned lesson plans, printable activities, and extension ideas — all pre-organized and ready to teach.
It’s a true plug-and-play model — no planning or prep required. From the kickoff visit to butterfly release day, every step is ready to go, making it effortless for teachers to bring nature, science, and joy into the classroom.
Perfect for: Schools in the Santa Clarita Valley and nearby districts.
Self-Guided Classroom Kits
Bring the wonder of butterflies to your classroom with Ylva the Butterfly Whisperer’s Self-Guided Kit — a complete, ready-to-teach experience designed for flexibility and ease.
Each kit includes live caterpillars in biodegradable cups, student observation journals, habitat supplies, and Butterfly Guardian certificates, along with access to Ylva’s short, engaging video lessons that guide your class through each stage of the butterfly life cycle.
Teachers also gain full access to the Blackborg Teacher Hub, where you’ll find a complete NGSS-aligned curriculum, step-by-step lesson plans, printable activities, and extension ideas — everything pre-organized and ready to go.
It’s a plug-and-play model built for busy teachers: no extra prep, no planning required. Simply open the box, log in to the Hub, and let your students experience the joy of raising butterflies from caterpillar to flight.
Perfect for: Teachers who want flexibility and easy scheduling.
